ROLL tide ROLL: Rose Bowl tonight!

January 7, 2010

I would be highly remiss if I didn’t mention that the FBS National Championship Rose Bowl game is TONIGHT!

I think you can tell who I’m rooting for.

Here’s why:

  1. I’ve always kinda liked Alabama and sported an Alabama hat around my senoir year of high school.
  2. Mark Ingram cried getting the Heisman (even if he did beat Tim Tebow, boo).

  3. I’ve always kinda hated Texas and it reminds me of the girls at the elite college I went to before I transferred who decorated our hall in “Hook ’em Horns!” decor. I don’t think they watched football.
  4. Colt McCoy is a tool. But this commercial is nice.

Just under the wire: NFL week 10 picks

November 12, 2009

As I log in to post my picks for this week, my computer’s clock says 8:19. So technically, I’m still in time for tonight’s 8:20 kickoff. Ha! Tonight’s game is the season’s first Thursday night event on the NFL Network. Too bad it’s Bears/Niners…who cares about them anyway? (Sorry if you do…and I guess I do have a little thing for Jay Cutler.)

Ain’t no Drew Brees, but he’ll do.

I won!!!

November 10, 2009

With MNF in its final minutes (and with us both picking Denver), I thought I’d go ahead and update y’all on this week’s B&tC pick ’em challenge.

A Boy: 6-6 (6-7 if Denver loses)

Me: 9-3 (9-4 if Denver loses)

Yeah. That’s right. But the sweetest part? Saints go 8-0. Um, who dat?

Hellllls yeah.

I WILL beat that: NFL week 9 picks

November 7, 2009

There’s a lot at stake this week. A Boy (as opposed to “The Boy,” which I don’t have) sent me his picks for the week, so bragging rights are up for grabs. Especially since he’s a Carolina fan. I can respect a few, like Bengals over Baltimore, but my Saints with their first loss to his Panthers? ‘Tainthappnin.’

Bye: Buffalo, Cleveland, Minnesota, NY Jets, Oakland, St. Louis

Sexy AND funny? Hey-lo.

Too bad I’m going to miss the Carolina beatdown. C-tina and I are going to Dane Cook! Don’t worry, I’ll be DVRing the game for another good laugh when I get home.

I can tell you my love for you will still be strong… MLB postseason 2009

October 31, 2009

You wouldn’t know from my lack of coverage that my favorite sport of all is Major League Baseball. The postseason has kinda gotten away from me after all my favorite teams dropped out, one by one. Right now we’re smack-dab in the middle of the granddaddy of them all…the fall classic…the WORLD SERIES. The Phillies and Yankees are all knotted up at one game apiece with game three tied right now 3-3. Let’s take a look at how the boys of summer became the men of October.

Yankees beat Twins, 3-0
Angels beat Boston, 3-0

Yankees beat Angels, 4-2

Phils win it all in 2008

Phillies beat Rockies, 3-1
Dodgers beat Cardinals, 3-0 (boo hiss)

Phillies beat Dodgers, 4-1

Are you kidding, I can’t even finish this post without the Yankees scoring. I’m praying for a repeat of last year, ’cause who wants to see the Evil Empire with another feather in their caps?

This song always makes me think of driving down to the ocean with my old boyfriend, unsuccessfully looking for a place to park near the beach, sun on my face, wind in my hair, love in my heart.

It’s ‘spooky’ how good I am: NFL week 8 picks

October 31, 2009

Long time, no see, my loves. It seems that writer’s block has gotten the best of me…so much, in fact, that I couldn’t even be bothered to make picks last week! When my Saints struggled in the first half (6-0, baby), I figured I should resume. I MUST be the lucky charm, you know.

Bye: Cin, KC, NE, Pittsburgh, TB, Washington
(Pssst…hey sis, and others wondering, a bye means the team has the week off to max and relax in their supersized cribs and watch football all day like the rest of us.)

Sunday, November 1

  • Cleveland Browns @ Chicago Bears
  • Denver Broncos @ Baltimore Ravens
  • Houston Texans @ Buffalo Bills
  • Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets
  • Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers
  • San Francisco 49ers @ Indianapolis Colts
  • Seattle Seahawks @ Dallas Cowboys
  • St. Louis Rams @ Detroit Lions
  • Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans
  • Oakland Raiders @ San Diego Chargers
  • Carolina Panthers @ Arizona Cardinals
  • New York Giants @ Philadelphia Eagles

Monday, November 2

  • Atlanta Hawks @ New Orleans Saints (it’s jambalaya night!)
n22211552_36491000_6293Last year, even in spite of being mortally wounded earlier at my own football game, I was super-excited for the Saints on MNF.

Have a safe and happy Halloween my dears!

WHO DAT? NFL week 5 picks

October 9, 2009

I hope y’all were watching last week when my Saints intercepted that pass on the ONE YARD LINE and took it back for a touchdown. Ahhh, I love the NFL RedZone channel. Also, I just found my Reggie Bush jersey, yay. Of course we’re off this week, boo.

Bye: Chicago, Green Bay, New Orleans (4-0 hollaaaa), San Diego

I am falling asleep as I write this, so some of my iffy picks may be a result of delerium. I woke up with a crying babe at 4:30 this morning, then thought I was going to have to take my fauxsister to the hospital, and didn’t get back to sleep until she got up at 6:30. All this after watching the BoSox get shut out and going to bed around 2.

Lucky lady.

Speaking of which, Joe Nathan just blew ANOTHER save, this time in the ALDS versus the Yankees. Somebody’s paying that man off. And as I watch Nick Swisher bat, I realize fauxsister is out right now with a man who could pass as his twin. No joke. More on the MLB postseason tomorrow, promise.

PS – In case I texted you the title of this post last week and you were clueless, this is what I meant.

Race to October: MLB current standings

September 28, 2009

With exactly one week left in the regular season, all eyes are on the MLB pennant races. What that means is that the winners of every division, along with one wild card team from both the American and National Leagues, get set to compete for the biggest prize in baseball: a World Series championship! My Cardinals already clinched the NL Central, but let’s take a look at who else is preparing to play fall ball.

American League:

New York Yankees lead East (ew)
Boston Red Sox 8.5 games back

Detriot Tigers lead Central
Minnesota Twins 2 games back

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lead West
Texas Rangers 6 games back

National League:

Philadelphia Phillies lead East
Atlanta Braves 5 games back

St. Louis Cardinals clinched Central
Chicago Cubbies 8.5 games back (HA!)

Los Angeles Dodgers clinched playoff berth and lead West
Colorado Rockies 4.5 games back

Wild Card:

Boston leads AL with Texas 6 games back
Colorado leads NL with Atlanta 2.5 games back

GOOOOOO BRAVES! Come on, you can do it, you’ve got the Nationals to end the season.

P.S. I got my Stila Smudgepot today! YAYYY! In case you’re super-jealous you missed out, this freebie’s back – just enter code FREEFALL with any purchase.

Not quite Pete Rose: NFL week 2 picks

September 16, 2009

Super official week one quarterback ratings from yours truly: Tom Brady’s still a douche, but the ESPN guys don’t care. Drew Brees is on his way to throwing for another meeeellion yards this season. So is Jake Delhomme – to the wrong team. I love me some Philip Rivers (hello, he’s an ex-Wolfpacker) but he got by by the skin of his teeth. On a side note, I get so confused with Denver and the Bears doing that old QB switcheroo. And not to be a total girl here, but it totally doesn’t help that their team colors are THE SAME.

“Dude, ESPN is paying $1.1 billion a season to show these games – and thus help pay your bloated salary – so you’ll stop and talk to me when I tell you to stop and talk to me.”

  • Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons
  • Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions
  • Cincinnati Bengals @ Green Bay Packers
  • Houston Texams @ Tennessee Titans
  • Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs
  • New England Patriots @ New York Jets (ugh)
  • New Orleans Saints @ Philadelphia Eagles (I hope?)
  • St. Louis Rams @ Washington Redskins
  • Arizona Cardinals @ Jacksonville Jaguars (DAVID GARRARD.)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Buffalo Bills
  • Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers
  • Pittsburgh Steelers @ Chicago Bears
  • Baltimore Ravens @ San Diego Chargers
  • Cleveland Browns @ Denver Broncos
  • New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys

  • Indianapolis Colts @ Miami Dolphins

Hey hey I’m 11-5! How are your picks?
